The Last Exorcism (Original: The Last Exorcism ) is an American horror film from 2010 . The film opened in German cinemas on September 30, 2010.

The film is shot in the style of an apparent documentary ( mockumentary ). Reverend Cotton Marcus, an evangelical preacher and pastor from Baton Rouge who, among other things, also carries out exorcisms, is increasingly distancing himself from his work, which is characterized by the manipulation of the faithful. After a few recent deaths during exorcisms of his colleagues, most notably the death of a boy who reminds him of his own son, he decides to carry out a final exorcism and to film like an exorcist to educate the audience Numerous small technical tricks simulated the apparent reactions of ghosts.
He and a recording team, consisting of a director and a cameraman, set off to a remote farm in an impoverished area in Louisiana , where 16-year-old Nell Sweetzer, her devout but alcoholic father Louis and her brother Caleb have been there ever since Death of the mother lives almost isolated from the outside world. The team heads for a motel where Nell suddenly turns up at night, completely disturbed.
Cotton takes Nell to a hospital because he now considers her in need of psychiatric treatment. The doctors found, however, that Nell was in excellent health. The next morning, Louis brings her home and chains her because she slit her brother's face with a knife. While Louis takes Caleb to the hospital, Cotton and his team stay in the house, they inspect it and free Nell. At night they hear a baby cry. You will find Nell in the hallway who walks into the bathroom in a trance and "drowns" a doll in the bathtub. The crew also finds a drawing of a bloody, dead cat. Nell steals the camera while the team is sleeping and uses it to kill a cat and also raises the camera over Cotton to kill him, which the team prevents. The team discovers two more drawings: one shows Cotton fighting a huge flame with his crucifix , the other all three team members are murdered: the director cut to pieces with an ax, the cameraman beheaded and Cotton swallowed by the flames .
When Louis comes home, he hears a message from the hospital on his mailbox that Nell is pregnant. Cotton accuses him of incest , which he denies; Nell was definitely a virgin, the demon had made her pregnant. An argument ensues in which Cotton demands immediate psychotherapy instead of another exorcism. Louis then asks Marcus to leave his property. Nell makes a new noise, and when Cottons tries to calm her down, she slits his hand with a knife.
The team wants to move away, but Nell grabs Cotton and they wrestle with each other. Louis then attacks the fighters with a rifle and the fight moves into the house. In order to dissuade Louis from killing his daughter, Cotton finally agrees to conduct a second exorcism. During the exorcism, the demon reports very violently, lets her bend her body extremely and break two fingers and speaks through her to Cotton. When she offers him a "blowing job", he says that she is not obsessed because the expression is wrong. Nell breaks down and claims to have had sex with a boy named Logan. Her violence came about out of shame before the pregnancy. The team tracks down Logan who is not interested in girls because he's gay .
In Nell's completely pointless lie, Cotton believes he recognizes the devil , who is also called the Prince of Lies. The team returns to the farm again and finds it abandoned and the walls painted with numerous demonic and satanic signs. You look around the area around the farm and find a huge fire and a group of obscurely dressed occultists , including the family pastor, Pastor Manley. Louis is tied to a stake, Nell lying on his back to an altar in the center of the meeting. Nell suddenly gives birth to a nonhuman being that Manley throws into the fire, which then spreads violently and makes the demonic voices louder. At that moment the Christian faith returns to Cotton and he runs towards the fire with his crucifix in hand to fight the evil. The other two team members are discovered and murdered exactly as in the drawing; the cameraman is killed by Nell's brother. The camera falls to the ground and the film breaks off.

The sequel was scheduled to start shooting in February 2012 and was directed by Ed Gass-Donnelly. The film takes place three months after the debut, and Eli Roth has taken over production again. Andrew Sensenig, Spencer Treat Clark , Muse Watson , David Jensen, Judd Lormand, Joe Chrest, Julia Garner, Louis Herthum, Tarra Riggs, Ashlynn Ross, Cristina Franco, Raeden Greer, E. Roger Mitchell, Boyana Balta and Ashley Bell play the leading roles in the sequel.
