Young & Rubicam Inc. is an international advertising agency headquartered in New York City , United States . Y&R has 164 offices in 81 countries worldwide and 52 offices in 32 countries in Europe. The agency is part of the WPP Group .

history

Founded in 1923 in Philadelphia by John Orr Young and Raymond Rubicam , the advertising agency began designing and distributing leaflets , event posters , and flyers. The breakthrough came in the 1920s with the first order from the American food company General Foods .

During the 1960s, Young & Rubicam began producing the first color TV commercials and soon merged with other agencies to become the number 1 and multinational in the advertising landscape. Young & Rubicam was primarily seen as a strategic concept agency.

The full-service offer also includes the so-called "Young & Rubicam Brands" from the sister agencies belonging to the network. These include VML, Inc. , Wunderman , Burson-Marsteller , Landor Associates , Sudler & Hennessey , The Bravo Group , Cohn & Wolfe, and Robinson Lerer & Montgomery .

Others

On December 10, 1994, 50-year-old executive Thomas J. Mosser was killed in a letter bomb attack by Theodore Kaczynski , known as the "Unabomber," at his private home in North Caldwell, NJ.
