Erasco is a brand of the Belgian company Continental Foods . The term Erasco is derived from the company's previous name under Paul Erasmi & Co. GmbH .

history

Following the example of the first German canning factory founded by Heinrich Carstens in Lübeck in 1845 , Charlotte Erasmi (1827–1893) experimented with preserving food in airtight cans from 1866 onwards . Their preserving kitchen was entered in the commercial register in 1870 as a factory for long- life meals . Technical improvements and favorable transport connections, together with our own asparagus plantations and mushroom cultivation, created the conditions for large-scale industrial production. She received the title of "royal purveyor to the court".

The predecessor companies of today's company were the confectionery factory F. Vorbeck GmbH & Co., founded in Lübeck in 1873, and the canning factory Paul Erasmi & Co. GmbH , founded there in 1886 . These merged in 1926 to form the United Conservation and Confectionery Factories GmbH .

The brand name "Erasco" was legally protected in 1950. Finished products have been produced since 1968.

The manufacturer, last trading as Erasco GmbH , was taken over in 1996 by the globally operating American Campbell Soup Company with headquarters in Camden , New Jersey. The name was changed to Campbell Germany GmbH in 2002.

In 2013 Campbell announced that it wanted to sell its European business (Campbell Europe) to the financial investor CVC Capital Partners , based in Luxembourg .

Campbell's Germany GmbH has been operating as Continental Foods Germany GmbH , a subsidiary of the Belgian company Continental Foods, since March 2014 .

Product range, miscellaneous

The branded products manufactured in Lübeck include "Erasco" and, since 2001, the "Heisse Mug" (for advertising reasons, orthographically eigtl. Hot mug ) and "Raguletto". With around 500 employees, the company is one of Lübeck's larger employers. In 2003 Erasco was one of the German market leaders in soups (32%), in the stew segment (54%) and in instant soups (56%).
