As part of the formerly independent municipality of Becke, Oese has been part of the town of Hemer in North Rhine-Westphalia since the municipal reorganization on January 1, 1975 . The village is located on the Oese stream of the same name .

Federal road 7 runs through the village . Oese borders on the districts of Edelburg in the north, the city of Menden in the east, the Urbecke in the south and Höcklingsen and Mesterscheid in the west.

There are two limestone quarries and an industrial area in Oese . The largest company based in Oese is Keuco , a manufacturer of bathroom furnishings.
