Glyn Oliver Myhill (born November 9, 1982 in Modesto , California ), called Boaz Myhill , is a former Welsh football player with American roots.
Career
Aston Villa
Boaz Myhill joined Aston Villa at the age of 12 .
In January 2002, the then 19-year-old signed a loan deal with Stoke City , where he served as a substitute for Neil Cutler , the regular goalkeeper. However, he was called back by Aston Villa after just a week.
After the short trip to Stoke City, he was awarded for three months to Bristol City , where he was also only intended as a substitute and so did not get a single assignment.
Myhill played his first professional game in November 2002, in the First Division, on loan to Bradford City . However, that game was anything but good for Myhill, whom he conceded five goals against Sheffield United .
After three months at Bradford City, he was awarded a three-month loan to Macclesfield Town . Macclesfield manager David Moss tried to extend the loan period, but he was brought back from Aston Villa in late 2003 and eventually loaned to Stockport County .
Hull City
After the long odyssey, Myhill was eventually sold to Hull City . At Hull City, Myhill was prophesied of a positive outlook by manager Peter Taylor. So it happened that on December 13, 2003, Myhill signed a two and a half year contract with the "Tigers". Since signing with Hull City, Myhill has quickly become a fan favorite and an important pillar of the team.
In the 2004/2005 season, Myhill helped Hull City to move up from the Third Division to the Football League Championship and missed only one game throughout the season. In the 2005/2006 season, Myhill was also in great shape and only missed one game for Hull City. In the game against Stoke City he caused a sensation with two penalty kicks saved, whereupon the fans with banners "Myhill for England" demanded that Myhill should be appointed to the English national team. At the end of the season he was named Club Player of the Year and was named the top goalkeeper in the list of the league's top 50 players.
In August 2007, Myhill extended his contract early for a further three years. In the following season, the promotion to the Premier League could be achieved through good performances . Along with his teammates Ian Ashbee , Andy Dawson and Ryan France , Myhill is one of the few players who have accompanied Hull City through four different leagues.
At the beginning of the 2009/2010 season, Myhill could come up with good performances. This extended his contract to June 2012.
At the end of the 2009/10 season he left the club for West Bromwich Albion . In total, he played 257 league games for Hull City.
West Bromwich Albion
On July 29, 2010, Hull City accepted a £ 1.5 million offer for Myhill from West Bromwich Albion. Myhill officially joined the Premier League promoted team on July 30, 2010.
On July 29, 2011, Boaz Myhill moved to Birmingham City for a season on loan .
International
Although Myhill was born in the United States, he played for England's youth team in the hope of making it to America's national team.
In early 2006, Myhill was offered the opportunity to play for Wales , but Myhill declined the offer for family reasons. On March 17, 2008 he was called up for the first time in the Welsh national team, but was not used. Instead, he was set up for the U-21s to help the team in the qualification phase for the European Championship. He played his first game in the senior national team on March 26, 2008 when he came on during half-time for Lewis Price in a 2-0 win against Luxembourg .
family
Boaz Myhill was born in Modesto, California . His father is from the United States and his mother came from the Welsh town of Llangollen . When Myhill was one year old, his family moved to England. There he went to the Marches School in Oswestry , which is on the border with Wales. During his youth he was only a midfielder and played for the local club Oswestry Boys Club.
His Hebrew name Boaz comes from the fact that his parents liked to travel to Israel . Originally they wanted to call their son that, but relatives stopped them. Nevertheless, the name remained as a nickname.
