Ian Ashbee (born September 6, 1976 in Birmingham ) is a former English football player who last played at Preston North End in the Football League Championship .

Player career

Ian Ashbee began his career with Derby County in 1994 . However, since he came there only once in his first two years, he left the club and joined the Cambridge United team. There he played for six years before he left the club in 2002 to get a contract with fourth division Hull City .

At Hull, his debut failed completely and he was sent off in the first game. Then he blossomed into the favorite player of fans and coaches. The decisive goal for promotion to Football League One against Yeovil Town was achieved by Ashbee.

Even after that he was always a regular player and team captain.

Remarks

As the only player in the history of English football, he ran as the captain of the same team in the first four professional leagues.
