Franz Caramelle

Franz Caramelle (* 1944 in Kitzbühel ) is an Austrian art historian . From 1988 to 2009 he was the state curator for Tyrol .

Life

After attending primary school in his home town of Brixen im Thale  and the Academic Gymnasium Innsbruck  , Caramelle studied art history at the University of Innsbruck with Otto Lutterotti and Heinz Mackowitz from 1964 . In 1967 he entered the service of the Federal Monuments Office via a work contract before he graduated . In 1972 he received his doctorate with a dissertation on the bronze boss Caspar Gras (1585–1674).

As an employee of the Federal Monuments Office and from 1988 to 2009 as state curator, Caramelle was involved in the recording and protection of innumerable architectural monuments. From 1979 to 2007 he had lectureships on monument preservation at the University of Innsbruck, first at the Institute for Art History, later at the Institute for Architecture and Monument Preservation. He has written numerous publications on art history and monument preservation . In 2009 he retired.

In 2010 Caramelle received the Tyrolean Decoration of Honor .
