Otto Lutterotti ( Otto Ritter von Lutterotti zu Gazzolis und Langenthal until the Nobility Repeal Act 1919 , born January 14, 1909 in Innsbruck , Austria-Hungary , † August 15, 1991 in Rome or Innsbruck) was an Austrian art historian .

Life

Otto von Lutterotti comes from the Tyrolean noble family Lutterotti and studied art history in Innsbruck , Munich and Vienna . Since 1929 he was a member of the Catholic student union AV Austria Innsbruck . In 1934 he received his doctorate under Heinrich Hammer in Innsbruck . He then did an unpaid museum internship in Munich and began preparing a monograph on Joseph Anton Koch , which was published in 1941 by the German Association for Art Research in Berlin. From 1936 to 1939 he was assistant to Hermann Egger at the University of Graz . He then worked as an assistant at Hammer at the University of Innsbruck, where he received his habilitation in 1942 for the history of modern art. In 1943 he commented on the 4th Innsbruck “Gau Art Exhibition” in the semi-official periodical “Tirol-Vorarlberg. Nature, Art, People, Life ”in a National Socialist apologetic way. In 1943/44 he was released “because of his Austrian attitude”.

From 1945 to 1979 he was professor for art history at the University of Innsbruck.
