Vladimir Ivanovich Trussenev

Wladimir Iwanowitsch Trussenjow ( Russian Владимир Иванович Трусенёв , English transcription Vladimir Trusenyov ; born August 3, 1931 in Buinsk , Tatarstan ; † 2001 ) was a Soviet discus thrower who set a world record in 1962 and was European champion.

Career

At the Soviet Championships he was fourth in 1956, third in 1957 and second in 1958. He made his first major international start at the European Championships in Stockholm in 1958 . With 53.74 meters he was third, only 18 centimeters behind the Pole Edmund Piątkowski and eight centimeters behind the Bulgarian Todor Artarski .

In 1960 Trussenjow was fifth in the Soviet championship, but still represented the Soviet Union at the Olympic Games in Rome. After 54.31 meters in qualifying, he threw 52.93 meters in the final and finished 15th. In 1961, he was fourth in the 1961 Soviet Championship. The following year Trussenjow showed his best season. On June 4, 1962, he set a new world record in Leningrad with 61.64 meters. He exceeded Al Oerter's old world record by 54 centimeters. Oerter won the world record back on July 1st with 62.45 meters. After Trussenjow had become Soviet champion for the first time, he hoped to win the international match between the USSR and the USA. But he was only third behind Oerter and Rink Babka . In September 1962 at the European Championships in Belgrade in 1962 , however, he won superiorly and had a lead of 57.11 m over Kees Koch from the Netherlands.

1963 only fourth in the Soviet championship, he won his second title in 1964. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo he was eighth with 54.78 meters. In 1965 and 1966 he was again Soviet champion, but could no longer qualify for the finals at the European Championships in Budapest in 1966 . After a fifth place in the Soviet championship in 1967 and a sixth place in 1968, his career ended.

Vladimir Trussenjow was 1.90 m tall and weighed 112 kg in his active time. Besides him, only one discus thrower from the Soviet Union set a world record, namely Yuri Dumchev in 1983.
