Alexander Nikolajewitsch Spessiwzew also Sascha Spessiwzew ( Russian : Александр Николаевич Спесивцев; born March 1, 1970 in Novokuznetsk ) is a Russian serial killer and cannibal . He was nicknamed the Siberian Tiger by the media .

Operations

With the help of his mother Lyudmilla, he lured at least 19 women and girls into the shared apartment in the Siberian city of Novokuznetsk between 1991 and 1996 , kept them there for days, raped , tortured and brutally murdered them. The corpses of his victims were then dismembered, cooked, partly fed to a Doberman belonging to the household , partly served to other captured victims and partly consumed by his mother .

In the summer of 1996, body parts were discovered in the Aba River within Novokuznetsk. The police found the heavily decayed, mostly skeletonized remains of at least 16 young women, the oldest of whom were just 16 years old. Only the head of one of the victims could be found. The find caused great horror among the population. In the time of upheaval after the end of the Soviet Union , many families broke up and the number of street children rose sharply. To this end, mafia- like structures were established that created an atmosphere of fear, so that even the corrupt authorities from Soviet times held back investigations out of fear in order not to hinder their activities. The overburdened authorities therefore did not take missing persons reports too seriously and thus misjudged the dimension of the numerous missing persons cases. It was only when the body was found that the investigation was intensified.

Due to a burst pipe, craftsmen opened the shared apartment of Sascha and Lyudmilla Spessiwzew in November 1996. The partially dismembered bodies of two girls were found in the bathroom and the police were alerted. During the subsequent search, the police found another girl who was still alive and who died shortly after an incriminating testimony in the hospital. Boiled human meat was found in the pantry, and drawings of 19 female genitals with names noted in Sascha's room - including those of the girls found in the apartment.

After a brief manhunt, Sascha and his mother Lyudmilla were arrested and charged. His sister Nadezhda, who worked as the secretary of the judge responsible and who obtained illegal access to the wanted documents shortly after the body was found, was evidently under his protection and was not arrested or later charged, although she, as a frequent visitor, was not unaware of the days of sexual abuse , Torture and murders and their traces could have been.

Sascha Spessiwzew was sentenced to death for 19 homicides , but was later classified as insane and admitted to a psychiatric institution . His mother was sentenced to 13 years in prison after confessing that she lured the girls into their son's apartment, boiled body parts and dumped others in the river.

The public was shocked at the possibility of such brutalization of a family. After the socio-economic decline in the successor states associated with the dissolution of the USSR, alcoholism and domestic violence were part of everyday life for a not inconsiderable part of the impoverished population. The unemployed and drinking father regularly beat his wife and children and sexually abused his daughter Nadezhda from early childhood. When he left the family, the teenage Sascha took over the role of the family tyrant and continued the physical and sexual violence against his mother and sister. The question of why his mother and presumably his sister supported him when he began to use brutal violence against other people remained unanswered. The question of the cause of the cannibalism could not be adequately and convincingly answered by referring to the economic situation at the time and the supply bottlenecks caused by it.
