The club was founded in 1933 when VfR Breslau (founded in 1897) and SC Schlesien Breslau (founded in 1901) merged. The SC Schlesien 01 from Kleinburg (Borek) was created after splitting off from "FC Blitz", which from 1907 called itself VfR. Silesia won the Southeast German regional championship in 1906 and 1907, the VfR in 1908 and 1909. However, the merger did not mean a return of the former pioneers to top-class football. The resulting VfR Schlesien 1897, as a civic club with the departments of cycling, athletics, hockey and tennis, now tended to maintain its elite side, while football had turned from civic sport to mass entertainment. Former members of the VfR Schlesien 1897 Breslau held regular club meetings after the war. Until a few years ago, members of the fields of hockey and tennis met for annual traditional meetings at the Heiligenhof in Bad Kissingen. After the National Socialists came to power in 1933, the Southeast German Football Association was dissolved and 16 Gauligen were introduced across Germany. The club missed the qualification for the Gauliga Schlesien , he took the starting place of the SC Schlesien Breslaus in the second-rate district league Middle Silesia perceived. In this, the club was able to achieve midfield placements in the years to come. In 1941/42 the club withdrew, presumably due to the war, from the league now renamed 1st class in Lower Silesia and from then on played in the district class. In 1944/45 the club was listed as a participant in the Gauliga Lower Silesia , but due to the war, only one game was played, which was lost 5-0 against the Breslauer SpVg 02 .

After the end of World War II , Wroclaw was awarded to Poland. The German population was expelled and all associations were dissolved. As a result, the VfR Schlesien also went out in 1897 Breslau 1945.
