Gauliga Silesia

The Gauliga Schlesien was one of the top German football leagues during the National Socialist era .

After the NSRL area of Silesia officially ceased to exist on August 1, 1941, the football championship was held separately in the Sportgau Lower Silesia and Sportgau Upper Silesia .

history

The Gau classification 1933,
No. 4 = Silesia

The predecessor of the Gauliga Schlesien was the Southeast German football final , which was held by the Southeast German Football Association (SOFV). In the course of the Gleichschaltung, the SOFV and the other regional football associations in Germany were dissolved a few months after the National Socialists came to power in 1933. 16 Gauligen took their place . The majority of the clubs from the SOFV were assigned to the Sportgau Silesia, only the clubs in the Brandenburg Lower Lusatia moved to the Sportgau Berlin-Brandenburg .

From 1933 ten teams played in the Gauliga Schlesien for the title of Gaumeister, who was entitled to participate in the final round of the German football championship. For the 1939/40 season, the league was split into two seasons due to the war. Initially six or eight teams took part, because of the withdrawal of SV Ratibor 03 and STC Görlitz , the leagues were played with one team less each. The regional championship was played out between the relay winners forward lawn sport Gleiwitz and FV 06 Breslau . In the following season eleven teams played in a single-track league, but on March 30, 1941, the championship was broken off due to the war. The previous year's and serial champion Vorwärts-Rasensport Gleiwitz, who was first placed at that time, was appointed representative of the Gauliga, Gleiwitz led the championship level on points with Germania Königshütte , only the better goal quotient valid at the time was the decisive factor for Gleiwitz.

In the following season the league was divided into the Gauligen Lower Silesia and Upper Silesia .

District Leagues

The district leagues of Lower , Middle and Upper Silesia formed the second-class substructure of the Gauliga Schlesien . The Lower Silesian District League was again divided into two seasons, the season winners playing off the champions. From the 1939/40 season, the other two district leagues were also played in two seasons. The three district champions then played the two promoted players in the Gauliga in a promotion round. From 1940/41 the district leagues were renamed to 1st class . Due to the gain in Polish areas and the start of the game operation in these, the 1st class Upper Silesia was divided into two seasons with two departments each for the 1940/41 season. Both season winners were allowed to take part in the promotion round.

The following is an overview of the respective winners of the district leagues. Teams in bold prevailed in the promotion round.

B. By increasing the Gauliga next year, all teams in the promotion round rose.
C.In addition, there was first a decision-making round between the clubs from the conquered Polish territories, in which 1. FC Kattowitz prevailed and rose. Then there was a relegation round between the last two of the Oberschlesien group of Gauliga Schlesien 1939/40 and Germania Königshütte and TuS Schwientochlowitz , who also came from the Polish territories , in which both of the latter clubs were able to prevail and thus also rose.
D. Due to the division of the Gauliga in the next year, all teams rose to the promotion round.
E. Two representatives from Upper Silesia were allowed to take part in the promotion round.

Reichsbund Cup

In the first stages of the Gau selection competitions , the selection team of Silesia could not celebrate any successes and was eliminated in the first round. It was not until 1937/38 that the first victory ever in this competition was achieved with a 3-1 away win over Mitte . In the 1938/39 season , however, the selected team from Silesia reached the final after victories over Nordmark , Ostmark and Württemberg . On March 5, 1939, the Silesians also won the final played in the stadium at the Ostragehege in Dresden against the selection team of the Gaues Bayern and thus won the Reichsbund Cup for the first time.
