The Wehrmacht-Sport-Verein (WSV) Liegnitz was a German military sports club from Liegnitz in Lower Silesia, which existed until 1945. Today Liegnitz belongs to Poland and is called Legnica .

history

In July 1940 the footballers of the garrisons stationed in Liegnitz united to form the "Wehrmachts-Sport-Verein". This WSV had the club colors red-white-black and competed in white jerseys with a red chest ring and black shorts to his games. The former "Blitzer" square on Glogauer / Grünthaler Strasse served as the venue. FC Blitz Liegnitz, founded in 1903, built this sports field in 1921, but had to hand it over to VfB Liegnitz in 1939 when it ceased operations due to the war . He made the sports facility available to the military sports club on a lease basis.

The WSV office was located in the staff building of the Fusilier barracks, the club leader was Lieutenant Herbert Hildebrand, captain Sergeant A. Pawlitzki, sports instructor Feldwebel Kurt Otto , who had previously been the coach of FC Schalke 04 and the Polish national team , and trainer Private Kurt Börner. The Wehrmacht-Sport-Verein was far superior to the "civil" Liegnitzer kickers and reached the Lower Silesia Gauliga in the 1941/42 season . The greatest success was only achieved in the last season of 1943/44, when the soldiers' eleven secured the championship of the Gauliga Liegnitz and advanced to the final of the Lower Silesian championship. Here, however, she had to admit defeat to STC Hirschberg after three games and so missed the chance to play in the finals of the German soccer championship. At the end of the war in 1945, the association was dissolved.
