The STC Hirschberg 1919 was a German sports club from the Lower Silesian town of Hirschberg (Riesengebirge) , which gained fame especially in the 1940s through its soccer team. The club colors were black and white, the home stadium was the Hirschberger Feigenmund.

history

The STC was based in the Lower Silesian town of Hirschberg in the Giant Mountains , which is now called Jelenia Góra and is located in Poland. It was founded in 1919 under the name Hirschberger SV 1919 and first achieved the title of Bergland Champion in the 1925/26 season , then the final round of the southeast German championship . After a merger with the STC Hirschberg, it appeared as the STC in 1919. The sports club became known nationwide in 1943/44, when its soccer team advanced to the round of 16 of the final round of the German soccer championship .

Before that, the STC had never reached the level of the Gauliga Schlesien , one of the highest German football classes. In the 1930s the STC played in the Bergland football district. Only when the Gauliga Schlesien was divided into the leagues of Upper and Lower Silesia in 1943, the STC was divided into the Görlitz group of the Gauliga Lower Silesia for the 1943/44 football season . In this group with exclusively Gauliga newcomers, the STC was group winner and finally also won the Gaume Championship with victories over SpVgg 02 Breslau and DSV Schweidnitz. Hirschberg had qualified for the final round of the German championship. In the first round the SCT came to a 7-0 victory over SDW Posen, in the subsequent round of 16 against Vienna Wien the championship came out with a 0-5.

The best-known players in the final squad were Fritz Machate , who moved to Dresdner SC immediately after the SCT was eliminated and won the German championship in 1944 with this team, and Kurt Helbig , who played 72 league games for SpVgg Fürth in the 1950s .

After the German population was expelled from Hirschberg after World War II , the Hirschberg STC went out in 1945.
