Kurt Helbig (born January 26, 1923 in Döbeln ; † August 2, 2004 ) was a German football player. With the STC Hirschberg and the SpVgg Fürth he reached the finals of the German soccer championship three times .

Helbig began playing organized football in his hometown at Döbelner SC when he was young . He played his first men's soccer games in 1940/41 with the Döbeln sports association in the Dresden district league, and that season was promoted to the Gauliga Sachsen with his team . In 1943 he joined the Lower Silesian club STC Hirschberg . With him he became champion of the Gauliga Lower Silesia in 1944 and then belonged to the STC squad for the final round of the German championship in 1944 . As a middle runner , he was used in the two games of the STC before the team was eliminated in the second round. After the club went under as a result of the expulsion of the German population in 1945, Helbig settled in the Upper Palatinate and joined FC Haidhof, with whom he last played in the Bayern League. In 1948 he moved to TSV Schwaben Augsburg , with whom he played for a year in the Oberliga Süd .

At the beginning of the 1949/50 season, Helbig joined the promoted team in the Oberliga Süd, the Fürth game association. The first league newcomer was with his newcomer Helbig in the first year of the southern championship, and Helbig thus came to his second participation in the finals of the German championship . The Fürth made it to the semi-finals (1: 4 against VfB Stuttgart), Helbig was used as the left runner in all three final rounds. 1950/51 the SpVgg Fürth was runner-up in the Oberliga Süd and qualified again for the DM finals . The Fürth contested six matches in the preliminary round, but then retired as third party. Helbig was used again as a midfielder in all group matches.

At the age of 30, Helbig made another club change in 1953. He now played for Viktoria Aschaffenburg , also in the Oberliga Süd. With his new club he had to relegate to the second division after a year. However, he helped the Lower Franconians to rise again within a year and then played another season for Victoria in 1955/56. In the summer of 1956, at the age of 33, he ended his career as a football player. He had taken part in three final rounds of the German championship, played eleven games and scored one goal as a midfielder. As a recreational footballer, he was later active at SV Hörstein (1958/59) and Viktoria Wertheim (1960/61). Helbig played in the senior team of SV Heiligkreuz until 1983.

From 1953 to 1993 Helbig worked as a trainer for numerous lower-class football teams in southern Germany. He looked after TSV Friedberg , FV Biebrich 02 , Viktoria Wertheim, FC Kempten , SpVgg Kaufbeuren , FC Memmingen , BC Augsburg (1967/68) and TSV Kottern , among others .
