The FC Kempten is a football club from Kempten (Allgäu) . The club, which has around 400 members, plays in the Southwest regional league in the 2019/20 season.

history

The club emerged from a football subdivision of the men's gymnastics club Kempten founded at the beginning of the 20th century , which merged in 1907 with three other gymnastics clubs in the city to form TV Kempten . On September 21, 1908, the footballers split off to found a pure football club, FC Kempten .

After the Second World War, FC Kempten played in the 1st amateur league in Southern Bavaria from 1957 to 1963. After relegation from the top amateur league, the club shuttled between the regional league and district league. It was not until 1999 that the long-awaited promotion to the Bavarian Football League was achieved. However, the club could not prevent relegation in the following season 1999/2001. In the 2004/05 season, he returned to the Bayern League . But again, FC Kempten failed to secure relegation in the 2005/06 season and relegation to the regional league was the logical consequence.

In the 2006/07 season, the FC team showed a constant season performance and, after having led the state league since the 5th matchday, was able to secure promotion on the penultimate matchday with a win against TSV Grünwald. In the 2007/08 season, the Kempten team finished last in the Bayern League, which in turn meant relegation to the Landesliga Süd. The promotion coach and ex-professional Uwe Wegmann was dismissed in the middle of the season. Also at the end of the following two seasons, FC Kempten had to relegate and played in the Schwaben-Süd district league in 2010/11 (the seventh highest division in the German league system ).

Also in the 2010/11 season there was no new start and FC Kempten had to be 13th in the table. in the relegation game against TV Erkheim , which was lost 0: 1. Thus, after the fourth relegation in a row, FC Kempten played in the district league, but made it back to the district league in 2013, rose again in the following season, then directly to the district league south. After relegation again in the 2015/16 season, when they surprisingly lost the decisive game to keep their league 0-1 against SV Schwabegg, Matthias Jörg was introduced as the newer as the new player-coach. In his first season he reached second place in the district league Allgäu Süd and rose because of the waiver of VfB Durach 2 in the district league. After being promoted again, the Oberallgäuern had an outstanding season in the BZL Schwaben Süd. With 68 points from 30 games and a total of 13 points ahead of their pursuers Erkheim, FC Kempten rose to the Landesliga Südwest. In the 2018/19 season, they were able to establish themselves in Bavaria's third-highest division and achieve a solid 10th place.
