The club was founded in 1926 when the SC Vorwärts Gleiwitz (founded in 1910) and the lawn sports club Gleiwitz (founded in 1909) merged. The home games were played in the Jahnstadion , which had a capacity of 15,000 and is now home to Piast Gliwice as the GKS Piast stadium . In 1933 Vorwärts-Rasensport was able to qualify for the first time for the finals of the German football championship as second in the finals of the Southeast , but had no chance in the round of 16 against Fortuna Düsseldorf and lost 9-0. In 1935 they reached the finals again as champions of the Gauliga Schlesien , but in the newly introduced group stage they won despite a sensational 2-1 success in the Jahnstadion against Hertha BSC on May 26th. only third out of four. As a result, qualification for the semi-finals was missed.

1936 Gleiwitz qualified again for the finals . In the group stage, Eimsbütteler TV , Werder Bremen and Viktoria Stolp were drawn. The group games began with a 3-0 defeat for the Gleiwitzer in Eimsbüttel. A 5: 2 against Werder Bremen, a 5: 0 over Viktoria Stolp and another 4: 2 in Bremen made the Gliwice the secret favorites in Group II. The group victory was achieved, and in the semifinals Vorwärts met Fortuna from Düsseldorf again . The Gliwice initially took the lead and fought a passionate fight, but then had to bow 1: 3 to Fortuna, who had six national players. At that time, forward was ironically trained by the ex-Düsseldorfer Frauenkron. In the final for 3rd place, the exhausted Gleiwitzer lost 8-1 against FC Schalke 04 .

Then normality returned, forward lawn sport was three more times Silesian Gaumeister, but could not convince in 4 other finals. After the end of the Second World War, the city of Gliwice became Polish and the forward lawn sport club in Gliwice was dissolved.
