Privy Council (Thailand)

The Privy Council ( Thai : สภา องคมนตรี ไทย , pronunciation: [ sàpʰǎː ʔoŋkʰámontriː Taj ]; Engl .: Privy Council ) is appointed by the king group of advisers of the King of Thailand .

According to royal instructions, members of the Privy Council can represent the king on official occasions. Another important task of the council is to draft palace laws on succession to the throne.

The President of the Privy Council (currently General Prem Tinsulanonda ) acts as the temporary regent during the king's absence.

The following current Crown Councils were appointed by King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX.) And then taken over by King Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X.) in his Privy Council:

  1. General Prem Tinsulanonda (1920–2019) (Thai: เปรม ติณ สู ลา นนท์ ), Commander in Chief of the Army (1978–1981), Prime Minister (1980–1988), President of the Privy Council (1998–2016), Thai Regent (2016), since 2016 President of the Privy Council again
  2. Kasem Watanachai (* 1941) (Thai: เกษม วัฒน ชัย ; since 2001), former Minister of Education (2001)
  3. Palakorn Suwanrath (* 1948) (Thai: พลากร สุวรรณ รัฐ ; since 2001), former Deputy Minister of the Interior
  4. General Surayud Chulanont (* 1943) (Thai: สุร ยุทธ์ จุ ลา นนท์ ; 2003–2006, again since 2008), former Prime Minister (2006–2008), Commander in Chief of the Army (1998–2002), Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces (2002–2003)
  5. Atthaniti Disatha-Amnarj (* 1944) (Thai: อรรถ นิติ ดิ ษ ฐ อำนาจ ; since 2007), former President of the Supreme Court (2002–2004)
  6. Supachai Phungam (* 1945) (Thai: ศุภ ชัย ภู่ งาม ; since 2008), former President of the Supreme Court (2004–2005)
  7. General (Air Force) Chalit Pukpasuk (* 1948) (Thai: ช ลิต พุก ผาสุข ; since 2011), former Commander in Chief of the Air Force (2005-2008)
