The MSV Cherusker Görlitz was a German military sports club from Görlitz in the Silesian Upper Lusatia .

history

The club was founded as SV Cherusker Görlitz and belonged to the Southeast German Football Association . Around 1935 the name was changed to MSV Cherusker Görlitz . The name Cherusker comes from the ancient Germanic tribe . In the 1933/34 season Cherusker Görlitz won the district class and took part in the promotion round to the Lower Silesia District League , which was successfully contested. The first season in the second-rate district league was finished in second place. Already in 1935/36 Görlitz won the group west of the district league and met the winner of the group east, SC Schlesien Haynau . With two 1-0 successes, Görlitz became champion of the Lower Silesia District League and was thus allowed to participate in the promotion round to the Gauliga Silesia . In this, however, the Reichsbahn-SV Gleiwitz and the SC Hertha Breslau were too strong, so that the jump into the first division was narrowly missed. In the same year Görlitz qualified for the main round of the Tschammer Cup . Cherusker lost just 1: 2 at home against Berliner SV 92 and was eliminated in the first round.

Görlitz also won his regional group in 1936/37 and this time met VfB Liegnitz in the finals , but lost both games. After the 1938/39 season, the club withdrew from play due to the war. In 1945 at the latest, the association was completely extinguished.
