The Oberschlesien district league was one of three second-rate football leagues in Sportgau Silesia during the Nazi era . It served next to the District League Lower Silesia and the District League Middle Silesia as a substructure for the Gauliga Schlesien and existed from 1933 until the war-related division of the Sportgau in 1941 and was subsequently replaced by the 1st Class Upper Silesia .

history

From 1933, twelve teams initially played in the Oberschlesien regional league for promotion to the Silesian Gauliga. The winners qualified for the promotion round to Gauliga Schlesien, in which the latter played off the two promoted players with the winners of the Lower Silesian District League and the Central Silesian District League. Before 1933, the clubs played in the Upper Silesia district of the southeast German football association . For the 1934/35 season , the number of participating teams decreased to eleven. From the 1937/38 season there were again twelve participants. In 1939/40 the district league was first played in the two regional groups, the winners of both groups then met in two finals to determine the Upper Silesian participant in the promotion round to the Gauliga. As a result of the territorial gain in violation of international law as part of the attack on Poland in East Upper Silesia , there were more and more clubs in the now enlarged Upper Silesia, so that the District League Upper Silesia for the 1940/41 season in the independent District League Upper Silesia East , for the newly added areas, and District League Upper Silesia West for the ancient territories that were divided. Both provided an extra district champion for the promotion round to the Gauliga.

A total of eight times the winner of the Oberschlesien District League was able to prevail in the promotion round and move up to the Gauliga Schlesien . Only in the 1939/40 season did SV Schomberg miss promotion due to the poorer goal quotient . There were various regional district classes as a substructure for the Central Silesia District League. The last two were relegated to the district classes at the end of the season. Later there were more relegations, as some clubs withdrew from the game at the beginning of the Second World War . The winners of the district classes also met in promotion rounds to determine the promoted to the district league of Upper Silesia.

After the reorganization of the Sportgaue due to the war, the Oberschlesien District League was replaced by the 1st Class Oberschlesien.
