Günter Köster

Günter Köster (born April 27, 1917 in Hanover , † October 22, 1997 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German athlete.

He was fourth over 100 meters at the German Junior Championships in 1937. In 1938 he ran the 4 x 100 meter relay of the Post-SV Mannheim German annual best time in 41.6 s in the adult area . In the same year he won bronze with the relay ( Heinrich Herrwerth , Günter Köster, Willi Garrecht , Karl Neckermann ) at the German Championships in Breslau . In the following year, the Mannheim squadron ( Siegfried Schmitt , Heinrich Herrwerth, Feuerstein, Günter Köster) won the German championship title in 42.4 seconds . He also took part in the University World Championships in 1939, where he won gold in the relay and came fourth over 200 meters.

Köster started for the Post-SV Mannheim and Eintracht Frankfurt . He was an engineer and, after the Second World War, initiated the construction of the first indoor athletics track in Frankfurt, where the first German indoor championships were held in 1954 .
