Siegfried Schmitt
Siegfried Schmitt (born September 8, 1915 in Offheim , † December 5, 1988 in Darmstadt ) was a German athlete.
Life
Schmitt ran in 1938 with the 4 x 100 meter relay (Siegfried Schmitt, Heinrich Herrwerth , Karl Neckermann , Günter Köster ) of the Post-SV Mannheim German annual best in 41.6 s. In the following year, the Mannheim squadron (Siegfried Schmitt, Heinrich Herrwerth, Feuerstein, Günter Köster) won the German championship title in 42.4 seconds . He also took part in the University World Championships in 1939, where he won gold with the relay and made it into the intermediate run over 100 meters.
He became director of studies at the Georg Büchner School in Darmstadt and was involved with ASC Darmstadt . The Darmstadt Sports Foundation has been awarding the Siegfried Schmitt Prize for youth development since 1989.
