Giuliana Salce

Giuliana Salce (born June 16, 1955 in Rome ) is a former Italian walker .

She won the first Italian championship in 3000 meter indoor walking in 1981 and remained unbeaten at the national indoor championships until 1987. In the open air, Salce was champion over 5 km from 1982 to 1984 and 1987, and in 1984 also over 10 km.

In 1983 Salce set a world best time over 5 km, in 1984 one over 3 km. The World Indoor Athletics Games in Paris in 1985 were the first major international championships where women walked on the program. In 12: 53.42 minutes, Salce won with a lead of over ten seconds on her rivals. At the European Indoor Championships in 1987 in Liévin , Salce was second behind Natallja Dmitratschenka from the USSR. 14 days later she lost again to a Soviet walker at the 1987 World Indoor Championships with Olga Krischtop . In the open air at the World Athletics Championships in 1987 in her hometown of Rome, Salce came in 18th.
