João Campos

João José Pontes Campos (born September 22, 1958 in Albufeira ) is a former Portuguese medium and long-distance runner .

Over 1500 meters he reached the semi-finals at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow and failed in the preliminary run at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1983 .

In 1984 he came in 26th at the World Cross Country Championships in East Rutherford and won bronze with the Portuguese team. At the Olympic Games in Los Angeles , he was eliminated over 5000 meters in the semifinals.

In 1985 he won at the IAAF World Indoor Games in Paris about 3000 meters . At the European Athletics Indoor Championships he won bronze over the same distance in 1986 in Madrid and was sixth in 1989 in The Hague .

Five times he was Portuguese champion over 1500 meters (1975, 1980, 1982, 1984, 1985) and once each over 800 meters (1980) and 10,000 meters (1989). In 1989 he became national indoor champion over 3000 meters.
