Michele Didoni

Michele Didoni (born March 7, 1974 in Milan ) is a former Italian athlete . With a height of 1.78 m, his competition weight was 71 kg.

Michele Didoni was the European Junior Champion in 1993 in the 10,000-meter course. At the European Indoor Championships in 1994 he was fourth over 5000 meters. Outdoors he was tenth in the 20 km walk at the 1994 European Championships . Over the next few years, he competed in every major event on the 20 km course.

He achieved his greatest success at the age of 21 at the 1995 World Championships in Gothenburg . Two kilometers from the finish line, the leading group consisted of Didoni, the Spaniard Valentí Massana and the Mexican Daniel García . Massana fell back first. With 250 meters from the finish, García was taken out of the race by the judges and Didoni won clearly ahead of Massana in 1:19:59 h.

In the following years Didoni could not build on this success. At the 1997 World Championships , he was seventh. This was followed by eleventh place at the 1998 European Championships , tenth place at the 1999 World Championships and eleventh place at the 2000 Olympic Games .

Didoni started as a sports soldier for the athletics promotion group of the Carabinieri in Bologna.
