Valentí Massana ( Valentí Massana Gracia ; born July 5, 1970 in Viladecans ) is a former Spanish walker .

Life

Like José Marín and Jorge Llopart , the founders of the successful Spanish walking series in the 1970s, Valentí Massana comes from the immediate vicinity of Barcelona . And as with his two Catalan predecessors, Massana’s career lasted a long time. Massana almost always crossed the finish line. He was only disqualified at one major championship, of all places at the 1992 Olympic Games at home in Barcelona, where he was on a medal spot in the 20 km walk when the judges took him out of the race.

Massana celebrated his greatest success at the 1993 in Stuttgart, when he crossed the finish line half a minute ahead of the Italian Giovanni de Benedictis . However, his lead up to the stadium was much smaller, because the Mexican Daniel García , lying in second place, was only disqualified in the stadium. At the 1995 Massana benefited from the fact that García was taken out of the race again shortly before the end, so that Massana came to silver behind Michele Didoni from Italy.

Massana also won a medal with bronze in Atlanta in 1996 behind the Pole Robert Korzeniowski and the Russian Michail Schtschennikow in the 50 km walk .

With a height of 1.65 m, his competition weight was 51 kg.
