Maritime pentathlon

The maritime pentathlon is a military sport and belongs to the association Conseil International du Sport Militaire ; this sport originated in 1959.

In 1959 the Bundeswehr joined the CISM, but took part in the competitions for the first time in 1968. The sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr in Eckernförde has been commissioned since 1972 to represent the Bundeswehr in the sport of maritime pentathlon at international and national competitions.

The "Sportfördergruppe Eckernförde" has been world and European champion several times since 1983 in both team and individual ratings; In 1983 and 1996 the CISM world championship in maritime pentathlon, in 2004 the CISM European championship of this sport was held in Eckernförde. Most recently, the German team was runner-up in the team championship at the 5th World Military Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2011 .

The five disciplines

1. Obstacle course
10 obstacles at 305 meters
2. Lifesaving swimming
75 meters, clothes swimming and dummy transport
3. Obstacle swimming
125 meters with fins, rifle transport and various obstacles
4th seamanship competition
480 meters, rowing course and technical part
5. Amphibious cross country run
approx. 2600 meters, shooting, paddling and throwing body target
