Edward Crook

Edward "Eddie" Crook (born April 19, 1929 in Detroit , Michigan , † July 26, 2005 in Montgomery , Alabama ) was an American boxer . He was a member of the US boxing relay at the Summer Olympics in Rome in 1960 . After victories over Fidel Odreman, Venezuela (TKO 1st), Peter Odhiambo, Uganda (5: 0), a controversial verdict in the final against Poland Tadeusz Walasek , Lo-Pu Chang, South Korea (TKO 3rd), Ion Monea ,Romania (KO 2nd), and a controversial final victory over Tadeusz Walasek, Poland (3: 2), Crook became Olympic middleweight champion (-75 kg).

In addition, Crook was military world champion in 1959 and 1960 in the light middleweight division (-71 kg).

After his active career, Crook served twice as a soldier in the United States Army in the Vietnam War . For his services he was awarded two Purple Hearts , a Silver Star and a Bronze Star .
