The Austria-wormwood ( Artemisia austriaca ), also Austrian mugwort called, is a plant from the family of the daisy family (Asteraceae). It is widespread in Eurasia .
description
Vegetative characteristics
The Austrian wormwood grows as a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 20 to 60 centimeters. The upright and branched stalk usually lignifies at the bottom.
At least the lower leaves are two to three times pinnate and more or less petiolate. Most of the stem leaves are clearly perforated at the base , the middle stem leaves reach a length of 1 to 2 centimeters. All foliage leaves appear whitish-gray and silky glossy due to pressed, silky-felt hair. The mostly 0.7 to 1 millimeter wide and 5 to 12 millimeter long leaves are blunt and tufted almost hand-shaped at the tip.
Generative characteristics
Many nodding, cup-shaped partial inflorescences stand close together in sparse, paniculate or racemose overall inflorescences . The outer bracts are thickly hairy and tomentose and the others are elongated. The bottom of the cup is bare. The cups are egg-shaped with a diameter of 2.6 to 3.8 (sometimes up to 4.5) millimeters, or a length of about 9 millimeters and a width of about 3 millimeters. The cups only contain tubular flowers . The tubular flowers are reddish yellow.
Chromosome number
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.
ecology
The flowering time of this Chamaephyte extends in Central Europe from July to September .
Occurrence and endangerment
The distribution area of the Austrian wormwood extends from Central , Eastern and Southeastern Europe , across Western Asia , the Caucasus , Siberia and Central Asia to China . The Austrian vermouth is native to Central Europe in Austria , Hungary and Slovakia .
In Austria, occurrences are only known from the Pannonian region of the federal states of Vienna , Lower Austria and Burgenland . The plant species, which rarely occurs on dry grassland and sand steppes of the colline high altitude level , and in exceptional cases also ruderally, is considered to be endangered in Austria. The Austrian mugwort occurs in Central Europe in societies of the Salsolion association or the order Corynephoretalia canescentis.
In Germany , the Austrian wormwood is a naturalized neophyte and is not particularly protected.
