Auricles
As auricles or ears also Aurikel or auricle (s) , are small in botany, often twisted rag called on both sides of the sheet reason that comprise the stem more or less. Auricles are distinguished from stipules and do not develop prematurely like these. Also petals may have ears. With the sweet grasses there are ears at the base of the leaf blade. In the orchids there can also be ears on the columna .
Even Carl von Linné used auricle to differentiate and used auriculatus as a specific epithet . But he also used it to refer to stipules.
