Anthony Stewart (born January 5, 1985 in LaSalle , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with the KHL Medveščak Zagreb in the Continental Hockey League . His younger brother Chris Stewart is also a professional ice hockey player.

Career

Anthony Stewart began his career with the Kingston Frontenacs , for which he was active for a total of four years in the Ontario Hockey League from 2001 to 2005 . During this time he was selected in the first round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft as the 25th player of the Florida Panthers . Towards the end of the 2004/05 season, the attacker made his professional ice hockey debut when he stood ten times for San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League , the Panthers' farm team at the time. In the following three seasons Stewart was in the Florida squad, as was their new AHL farm team, Rochester Americans . In the 2008/09 season , the Canadian played exclusively for the Panthers in the NHL. After his contract was not renewed at the end of the season, Stewart signed in July 2009 as a free agent with the Atlanta Thrashers .

On July 2, 2011, Stewart agreed on a two-year contract with the Carolina Hurricanes . During the lockout in 2012 Stewart played for the Nottingham Panthers in the EIHL before he was transferred to the Los Angeles Kings in January 2013 in exchange for Kevin Westgarth . He was then used with the Manchester Monarchs in the AHL.

In the summer Stewart completed the training camp of the San Jose Sharks , but could not recommend himself for a contract and finally moved in October 2013 to Awtomobilist Yekaterinburg from the Continental Hockey League . There he stood until December of that year contract before he Friborg-Gottéron in the Swiss National League A changed.

In August 2014 he received a trial contract with the KHL Medveščak Zagreb , which was not extended after two months.

International

Anthony Stewart won the gold medal for Canada at the 2003 U18 World Junior Championships , as well as a silver and gold medal at the 2004 and 2005 U20 World Junior Championships .
