Wilhelm Gratschow

Wilhelm Gratschow (born October 18, 1982 in Tashkent , Uzbek SSR ) is a former German boxer and Olympic participant from 2008.

Life

Wilhelm Gratschow came to Germany with his parents from Uzbekistan in 1993 at the age of ten and completed an apprenticeship as a tool mechanic at the Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg .

Boxing career

He trained at the Gifhorn boxing club and was German bantamweight champion in 2003 and 2004 and German featherweight champion in 2007.

At the EU championships in 2005 in Cagliari , he was eliminated in the semifinals against Detelin Dalakliew and won a bronze medal in the bantamweight division.

At the European Olympic qualification in Pescara in 2008 he defeated Vaidas Zubrikovas from Lithuania and Valentīns Morozovs from Latvia, then lost to Şahin İmranov from Azerbaijan, but beat England's Stephen Smith in the fight for the last qualification place . He thus represented Germany at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , but lost in the preliminary round against Tunisian Alaa Shili
