Charly Coronel Suarez (* 14. August 1988 in Asuncion , Davao del Norte ) is a Filipino boxer in the lightweight .

Career

The 1.68 m tall left boom won a bronze medal at the Asian Cadet Championships in Vietnam in 2004 .

He is the winner of the Southeast Asian Games in Laos in 2009 and in Indonesia in 2011 , defeating Wuttichai Masuk and Sailom Adi , among others . In 2012 he took part in the Asian Olympic qualification in Kazakhstan , where he could beat Madadi Nagsibekow, Anarbay Abdilay and Daisuke Narimatsu , but lost to Liu Qiang in the final with just 11:15.

At the Asian Games in South Korea in 2014 , he won the silver medal after losing just 1: 2 to Dordschnjambuugiin Otgondalai in the final fight . He had previously defeated Elnur Abduraimov , Akhil Kumar, Ammar Hassan and Obada Al-Kasbeh.

In 2016 he again took part in the Asian Olympic qualification in China , defeating Lai Chu-en, Dheeraj Rangi and Shan Jun and only lost 2-1 to Dordschnjambuugiin Otgondalai in the final. This time, however, this placement was enough for participation in the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil , where he failed in his first fight just 1: 2 to Joseph Cordina .

In 2017 he won a bronze medal at the Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia after losing to Wuttichai Masuk this time in the semifinals.

Charly Suarez was also a participant in the World Championships 2007 (preliminary round), 2009 (second preliminary round) and 2011 (preliminary round), the 2010 Asian Games (preliminary round), and the 2011 Asian Championships (round of 16) and 2015 (round of 16).

World Series of Boxing

In the 2011/12 season he made his debut for the Mumbai Fighters team in the semi-professional World Series of Boxing (WSB). The team was able to reach the quarter-finals, with Suarez also getting wins against Semen Griwatschew and Egkachai Prommaka. In 2012 he moved to Team Italia Thunder , which was able to reach the semifinals. Suarez won against Robert Harutyunyan and Anwar Junussow and lost to Vasyl Lomatschenko .

AIBA Pro Boxing

In this semi-professional tournament mode Suarez started from 2014, won twice against Domenico Valentino and against Magomedraschid Jabrailow and lost against Robson Conceição , Berik Äbdirachmanow and Xurshid Tojiboyev .

Professional career

He won his professional debut on January 16, 2019 against Ernesto Cagampang (match record: 2-0). In his second fight on March 5, 2019, he won the Filipino lightweight championship against Justin Cabarles (4-0).
