The Turnerbund Hamburg-Eilbeck eV from 1880 ( TH-Eilbeck aka THE ) is a sports club from the Hamburg district of Eilbek . After the HT16 , the TH-Eilbeck (THE) is one of the oldest and largest gymnastics and sports clubs in Hamburg and is a member of the Hamburger Sportbund . A wide variety of sports such as handball , judo , aerobics , fitness and gymnastics , table tennis , basketball , boxing , athletics , volleyball , sitting volleyball , fencing , children's gymnastics and circus techniques are offered in 20 sports departments . Its headquarters are in the club's own Ernst-Moritz-Arndt gym , which opened on May 9, 1914 at Ritterstraße 9.

The Turnerbund Hamburg-Eilbeck eV from 1880 was founded on May 13, 1880 in the Eilbeck Casino as a pure gymnastics club by and for men under the name Eilbecker Turnerbund von 1880 .
Spelling / pronunciation Eilbeck vs. Eilbek
Although the district was renamed from “Eilbeck” to “Eilbek” in 1946, the TH-Eilbeck retained its name spelling and pronunciation with “ck” , which had existed since its foundation in 1880 .
Historical
In 1901 women's and girls' gymnastics was first introduced in the club.
At the end of May 1933, two gymnasts from Eilbeck (Bestmann and Gromotka) were also included in the master team of the North Gymnastics Circle, who were supposed to perform as a special demonstration on the high bar at the German Gymnastics Festival in Stuttgart : Huck ( 1816 ), Stebens (1816), Waldeck ( Hamburg -Rothenburgsort ), Bach (1816), Streicher ( Kiel 1844 ), Gromotka (Turnerbund Hamburg-Eilbeck), Behrens ( HTBU ), Drecoll (Rostock), Bestmann (Turnerbund Hamburg-Eilbeck), W. Schmidt (1816) and H. Schmidt (Turnerbund Hamburg-Eilbeck) .
On November 18, 1934, the Gymnastics Association held an award ceremony, on which u. a. the gymnast Hermann Havenstein was made an honorary member. In addition, the gymnast Hubert Reddersen was included in the Gauriege. In 1938, the Turnerbund was the largest club in Eilbeck. On October 23, 1938, the Hamburg team's elimination matches for the city battle with Leipzig and Berlin took place in the Eilbeck gym in front of 400 spectators . In May 1939, the club celebrated the 25th anniversary of its gym in Ritterstraße with a show gymnastics event for all club departments. The TH-Eilbeck founded the Hamburg Judo Association in 1949 together with seven other Hamburg sports clubs .
