The German national futsal team is a representative selection of the German Football Association (DFB), which has represented Germany in international matches in futsal , the only version of indoor football recognized by FIFA , since 2016 .
history
While world and European championships have been held since 1989 and 1996 respectively , the sport of futsal was unknown in Germany well into the 2000s . It was not until 2006 that the DFB Futsal Cup was first introduced as an unofficial German championship. At the 2013 DFB Bundestag in Nuremberg , it was finally decided in the amateur football master plan to build a national team by 2016 at the latest. On December 4, 2015, the DFB Presidium decided to found the national team. The many years of working with the DFB football coach Paul Schomann became the national coach called.
After two screening courses in February 2016, Paul Schomann called a sixteen-member squad on March 31, 2016, which traveled to Georgia a month later for a training course . The two training games against the Georgian selection were lost 0: 4 and 0: 5 respectively. However, from a German point of view, both games are not considered official internationals . The first official international match was won 5: 3 against England on October 30, 2016 in Hamburg's Inselparkhalle . Team captain Timo Heinze scored the first goal in German international history.
At the end of January 2017, the German national futsal team took part in the qualification for the European Championship 2018 , where they were drawn into a group with Armenia, Estonia and Latvia. After they were knocked out after an unexpected 3-5 opening defeat against Armenia and an unfortunate draw with two own goals in the second group match against the favorites Latvia, she managed to win her first competitive game in the last group match against Estonia. Coach Paul Schomann resigned in February 2017 and retired. His successor, the very first foreign coach of a DFB national team, was the Dutchman Marcel Loosveld , who had already worked as a futsal bond coach until June 2016 .
In autumn 2017, the DFB invited the national futsal teams of Belgium, Switzerland and Turkey to a four-nation tournament. After a lucky 3-2 win in the semifinals against Turkey, the DFB-five lost 5:10 to the Belgians, who at this point had already played over 300 international matches. The German national futsal team ended 2017 with friendly matches against Slovenia and the Czech Republic , all of which ended in defeat, including a violent 2-13 clap in Pilsen . The following year of international matches, in which only friendly matches were played, was mixed. After the negative series against Denmark and Georgia initially continued, they were able to achieve a respectable success in October 2018 against vice-Asian champions Japan with a draw and a narrow defeat, before ending the year with two wins against Switzerland in December. At the beginning of 2019, the DFB-five took part in a Futsal World Cup qualification for the first time. In the preliminary round in Tbilisi, she first met two old friends, Georgia and Denmark. After a defeat and a win, the German team had to score at least one point in the last group game against Israel. After the DFB-five were behind for almost the entire season in this game, Christopher Wittig scored the all-important equalizer nine seconds before the end of the game to make it 2-2. In the main round , which took place in October 2019, the German team faced reigning European champions Portugal, as well as Latvia and the Czech Republic. Germany finished the main round with three defeats as the group bottom and missed the first-time entry into the elite round.
