Qualification for UEFA Futsal Champions League

The German Futsal Championship (until 2015: DFB Futsal Cup ) is the official German Futsal Championship. The tournament was held for the first time in 2006. The first winner was the UFC Münster , the current champion is VfL 05 Hohenstein-Ernstthal . The record champions are the Hamburg Panthers with four titles. The tournament will be whistled by DFB referees according to UEFA futsal rules. The winner qualifies for participation in the UEFA Futsal Champions League .

history

From 2006 to 2009 the tournament was played with eight teams. These were divided into two groups of four teams each, followed by semi-finals and finals. So far stations have been Göttingen (2006), Heidenheim an der Brenz (2007) and Mülheim an der Ruhr (2008/2009). In 2010 the finals were played in the final four mode for the first time in Cottbus . In 2011, the same mode was played in the Ring Arena at the Nürburgring . In 2012 the Final Four took place in Lübeck . Since 2013, each round in the DFB Futsal Cup has been played separately. In 2015 the competition was renamed the German Futsal Championship. From the 2021/22 season, the German champions will be played in a Bundesliga with ten teams.

mode

The champions and runners-up of the five regional associations of the DFB qualify for the German futsal championship. The five regional champions and the best regional runner-up qualify directly for the quarter-finals. To determine the best regional runner-up, the DFB creates a performance table that takes into account the results of the last three tournaments. There are four points for a victory in the German championship, three for a final and one point for a semi-final. In the event of a tie, the better placement in the previous year's performance table decides. The runner-up from the second best regional association meets that of the fifth best and the runner-up from the third best regional association meets that of the fourth best.

In 2019, the games of the eighth, quarter and semi-finals will take place in the first and second leg for the first time.

reporting

The German Futsal Championship is still receiving little media attention. In 2010, dfb.tv reported on the games a few days after the tournament. The Lausitzer Rundschau , on the other hand, dealt extensively with the competition, as both the venue and the publishing house of the Lausitzer Rundschau were in Cottbus. In 2011, the two semi-finals, the game for third place, the insert game between the DFB Allstars team and the Croatian national futsal team and the subsequent final could be seen live via a stream on dfb.tv. Sometimes more than 3,000 people took advantage of the offer. The 2017 final between Jahn Regensburg and VfL 05 Hohenstein-Ernstthal was broadcast on free TV for the first time.

particularities

As part of the DFB Futsal Cup 2010, a German all-star selection also played in a kind of international match for the first time. There, the German team lost 4-0 against a Polish selection , which competed for the first time at the 1992 World Cup and reached the intermediate round. In 2011, the DFB once again used the opportunity to gain experience with existing national futsal teams as part of the DFB Futsal Cup. This time the DFB-Allstar-Team played against the Croatian national futsal team , but lost it clearly with 1:11. The German national futsal team has only existed since 2016.
