The German Football Association has played a German futsal championship since 2006 . Until 2014 the competition was called the DFB Futsal Cup , before the competition was renamed the German Futsal Championship . On September 27, 2019, the DFB Bundestag in Frankfurt am Main unanimously decided to introduce the Futsal Bundesliga from the 2021/22 season. The aim is to further promote futsal in Germany in order to be internationally competitive.

For the opening season, the champions of the five regional leagues as well as the runner-up in the regional leagues North, Northeast, South and West qualify directly. Tenth place goes to the winner of a qualifying round in which the third-placed players in the North, Northeast, South and West regional leagues and the runner-up in the Southwest Regional League will take part.

mode

The ten teams play against each other in the league system . At the end of the regular season there is a championship round in which the German champions are played out. The bottom of the table is relegated directly to one of the five subordinate regional leagues. The penultimate plays with the champions of the five regional leagues in a relegation. In two groups of three, the league system is played again with home and return matches. The group winners qualify for the following Bundesliga season.
