The VfB Eppingen is a football club with about 450 members from Eppingen in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg . It was created when the football department of the Eppingen gymnastics club , which was set up in 1919, became independent as VfB Eppingen in 1921 and separated from the parent club.
The club celebrated its first major success in 1925 with the Gaume Championship. However, further successes could not be celebrated until the 1970s. In 1972/73 VfB Eppingen became champions in the 2nd amateur league Rhein-Neckar and thus achieved promotion to the 1st amateur league in North Baden. In the same year, VfB Eppingen won the Badischer Pokal. In the 1974/75 season, the team was champions of the 1st Amateur League North Baden. On October 26, 1974, in front of 15,000 spectators in the Kraichgau Stadium, a surprising 2-1 victory was achieved in the 1974/75 DFB Cup against the then Bundesliga leaders Hamburger SV with two goals from Gerd Störzer . For VfB Eppingen played: Gebhard, Lietzau, Kern, Schieck, Götter , Rupp , Wirth, Störzer, Welz, Breunig, Autz.
After the club played in the amateur league North Baden from 1974/75 to 1977/78, he rose through the stations Verbandsliga Nordbaden (champions 1978/79), Oberliga Baden-Württemberg (1979/80) with a 2nd place behind the amateurs of VfB Stuttgart , in the 2nd League South . Since the 2nd Bundesliga, which had been divided into two seasons until then, was to be merged into a single-track division from the 1981/82 season and the placements of the last three years were used for qualification, Eppingen had no serious chance of staying in the second highest season. After the end of the season, VfB Eppingen rose again from bottom of the table. Now the descent began. VfB also rose immediately from the league in the 1981/82 season and was only able to play in the league for another year in the 1990/91 season. After being promoted from the state league in 2012/13, the club played in the sixth-class Verbandsliga Baden, but rose again after one season. In 2016 they celebrated the championship of the Landesliga Rhein-Neckar and rose again to the association league.
