career

The former youth and amateur player of Wuppertaler SV, like his classmate Peter Redder, played in the Bundesliga in the 1972/73 season under coach Horst Buhtz . On December 2, 1972, in a 5-1 home win against Hamburger SV, he came on for Bernhard Hermes in the 84th minute . In the course of the first half of the 1973/74 season he took a step back in terms of sport and joined SV Südwest Ludwigshafen in the second -rate regional football league Südwest . The man from Wuppertal played his first regional league game on November 24, 1973 in a 1-1 home draw against ASV Landau. Under coach Horst Kunzmann , he completed 15 league games alongside teammates like Manfred Grimm and Stefan Groß and scored two goals when he reached 11th place in the table.

For his debut in the 2nd Bundesliga he played in the 1974/75 season, as did his attacking colleague Manfred Grimm at VfR Heilbronn. He made his debut on the first day of the 2nd Bundesliga, on August 10, 1974, in a 0-1 away defeat at SV Waldhof Mannheim at the side of teammates such as goalkeeper Karl Hrynda , Libero Reinhold Fanz , Vorstopper Klaus Kubasik and the attackers Karl-Heinz Frey and Grimm. On the fourth and fifth matchday he scored the 1-0 winning goal in the games against FC Bayern Hof and Röchling Völklingen. But he ended his work at VfR Heilbronn after nine second division appearances with two goals at the end of November and joined the relegation-threatened Wormatia Worms. Spannenkrebs played his first game for Worm on December 15, 1974 in a 2: 3 away defeat at FSV Mainz 05. At the end of the round, Spannenkrebs was relegated to the amateur camp with Worms as 19th; he had scored three goals under the coaches Radoslav Momirski , Slavko Stojanovic (interim) and Karl-Heinz Schmal in 19 second division games at the side of teammates like Udo Böhs , Klaus Ondera , Walfried Günther and Heiner Schmieh . Spannenkrebs continued to run for Worms and won the championship in the 1st Amateur League Southwest with Wormatia in the rounds 1975/76 and 1976/77 . In the promotion round in 1977 he prevailed with his teammates against the competitors Borussia Neunkirchen and TuS Neuendorf and thus moved back to the 2nd Bundesliga with Worms.

Because of protracted injuries he did not play a league game in 1977/78 and was only able to play again for Worms in three short appearances against SC Freiburg, Kickers Offenbach and SV Waldhof when he sensationally reached 3rd rank in 1978/79 in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the 1979/80 round, he played a season at SV Kuppenheim in the Baden-Württemberg Football League , where he played 16 league games under coach Peter Koßmann and teammates like Klaus Beverungen and Bernhard Metz . Spannenkrebs signed a new contract with the promoted team in the 2nd Bundesliga, VfB Eppingen , for the 1980/81 season and moved to Kraichgau . He ran under coach Heiner Ueberle in 19 second division games (2 goals) on the side of goalkeeper Volker Gebhardt , Erwin Rupp and Klaus Teichmann , but rose with Eppingen to 20th place.

In total, Spannenkrebs played 50 league games in the 2nd Bundesliga between 1974 and 1981 , scoring seven goals. From 1981 to 1986 the amateur stations at FC Erbach and SV Horchheim followed.
