In the first year of the 2nd Bundesliga , 1974/75, the attacker made 33 league games with seven goals at VfR Heilbronn .

Career

Grimm began his career at SV Waldhof Mannheim in the regional soccer league south . On September 18, 1966, the young player made his debut in a 4-0 home win against Darmstadt 98 as a center forward in the blue-black league from Alsenweg. He made his debut under coach Robert Körner at the side of top performers Wolfgang Höfig , Rolf Lederer and Klaus Sinn with two goals. In addition to the other offensive forces Udo Glaser, Karl-Heinz Kiss, Ivan Perusic and Friedrich Zipperer, the young striker completed 17 league games and scored ten goals for Waldhof. In his second year in Waldhöfer, 1967/68, Jürgen Dringelstein and Karl-Heinz Rößler joined the league squad with two more attackers. Under coach Hermann Lindemann , he only came to twelve other missions where he scored two goals. Therefore, he joined the 1968/69 season southwest Ludwigshafen in the regional soccer league southwest . At Südwest he immediately belonged to the regular cast and scored in the two successful rounds 1969/70 and 1970/71, when Südwest took third place, overall for the team of coach Kurt Jung and teammates such as Jürgen Wingert , Ulrich Kleinbub, Manfred Schönholz , Erich Eberspach, Norbert and Peter Klemm, 35 goals.

In the 1972/73 season he played for Karlsruher SC in the Regional Football League South . The striker contributed three goals in 18 league games to the runner-up of the team from the Wildpark Stadium. He made his debut for the blue-whites on August 12, 1972 in a 1-1 away draw at the Stuttgarter Kickers. In the 4: 3: 3 system at that time, the KSC attack under coach Heinz Baas was mostly occupied by Roland Vogel (33-13), Hans Fritsche (31-16) and Gerd Becker (31-11). After a season he turned his back on the Baden civil servant town and rejoined southwest Ludwigshafen for the last round of the old second-rate regional league system, 1973/74. Under coach Horst Kunzmann, he was immediately a regular again and scored 15 goals in 26 appearances alongside teammates Stefan Groß , Ibrahim Muratovic and Milan Zivadinovic.

For the debut season of the 2nd Bundesliga, 1974/75 , the goal-scoring attacker switched to VfR Heilbronn , who were then playing in the 2nd South League . The round start was perfect for both Grimm and Heilbronn with the 5-1 win on August 3, 1974, when the new center forward scored two goals. He quickly became a regular player and scored seven goals in 33 second division appearances in his first season at the end of which was relegation to the first amateur league . The VfR started the round with coach Zeljko Cajkovski and tried to avert the threatened relegation in November 1974 with his successor Rudolf Faßnacht . Despite the teammates Reinhold Fanz , Karl-Heinz Frey , Werner Haaga , Klaus Kubasik , Roland Mall and Petar Micic, this did not succeed with the 17th place. In the following years the VfR tried in vain to return to the professional sector. Manfred Grimm was the least likely, so he was able to achieve 14 goals in the 1976/77 season. One season later, he made himself immortal for the VfR fans when he entered the illustrious circle of city derby scorers on August 15, 1977 in a 4-2 win against major city rivals Union Böckingen.

In 1978 he reached the 1978/79 qualification for the newly founded Oberliga Baden-Württemberg with VfR Heilbronn . He was one of the few who was not involved in the big scandal at the end of this season when almost the entire team flew to Mallorca to celebrate after winning the title, instead of playing in the WFV Cup game against SB Heidenheim .

In the first league season, Grimm contributed significantly to staying up with 14 goals this season. In the 13-1 win against DJK Konstanz, he scored five goals. In the following season he was top scorer with 20 goals. He scored on March 13, 1982 in a 3-0 win against FV Lauda a hat trick within five minutes. After the 1982/83 season, Manfred Grimm ended his active career.

Manfred Grimm, elementary and secondary school teacher since 1973, became deputy headmaster (vice-principal) at the Heilbronn Staufenberg School at the beginning of the 1983/84 school year. From 2002 to 2013 he was the principal of this elementary and technical secondary school.
