Werner Haaga (nickname: Wagges , born March 3, 1947 ) is a former soccer player.

career

The son of VfB treasurer Eberhard Haaga, Werner Haaga, went through the youth classes at VfB Stuttgart and was taken over from the VfB amateur team to the Bundesliga team's license squad for the 1968/69 round. Immediately on the first match day, the young player made his debut in the Bundesliga at the home game against 1860 Munich . The game ended against the "Löwen" 1: 1 and the VfB-Sturm had acted in the line-up with Haaga, Gilbert Gress , Bo Larsson , Karl-Heinz Handschuh and Horst Haug . The highlight of the round was the 3-0 home win in front of 74,700 spectators on March 15, 1969 against the league leaders FC Bayern Munich , with which the team of coach Gunther Baumann was able to catch up to one point on the Munich team in second. Haaga stormed it on the left wing. At the end of the round he had played 21 games and scored two goals. In the next two years he did not come on these missions and played 1970/71 mostly again with the VfB amateurs in the 1st Amateur League North Württemberg. With the amateurs he became champions and took part in the competition for the German amateur soccer championship in 1971 with the team of coach Karl Bögelein . On July 10, 1971, he and his teammates lost the final against defending champion SC Jülich. After a total of 39 Bundesliga appearances with three goals, Haaga moved to VfR Heilbronn in the South Regional Football League for the 1971/72 season .

The little left wing was captain at VfR and formed a dreaded midfield together with Martin Kübler until the mid-1970s . In the last three rounds of the old second-rate regional league system, 1971/72 to 1973/74, Heilbronn finished eighth, sixth and twelfth. Outstanding were the home successes on February 17, 1973 against Karlsruher SC with 2-0 goals in front of 15,000 spectators and on March 17 with 2-1 goals against 1860 Munich in front of 18,000 spectators in 1972/73 . Harry Griesbeck , Bernd Hoffmann and Haaga formed the VfR attack. Haaga played 78 games and scored four goals. The VfR qualified for the first year in the 2nd Bundesliga South 1974/75 and "Wagges" Haaga tried 37 missions on the side of Karl Hrynda , Reinhold Fanz and Klaus Kubasik to manage the league. However, this did not succeed with reaching 17th place.

After relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga, Werner Haaga remained loyal to VfR Heilbronn as one of the few players, but had to end his career after the first game in which he suffered a serious knee injury.
