Horst Haug (born May 12, 1946 in Stuttgart) is a former German soccer player.

career

Haug played in his youth for the Stuttgarter Kickers , for which he was then also active in the first men's team. In his first round in 1964/65 under coach Hans Eberle , Haug made his debut on August 30, 1964 in what was then the second -rate regional soccer league south at the away game against SV Waldhof Mannheim. The junior player scored his first goal in the Regionalliga on September 6th in the away game against Kickers Offenbach : In the 87th minute, Haug scored the 2-1 winner for the “Blues”. At the side of Herbert Binder , Pál Csernai , Herbert Dienelt , Helmut Fürther , Otto Garhofer , Dieter Schurr and Rolf Steeb , Haug contested his first senior round; the Kickers finished in seventh place.

Horst Haug achieved the best placement under former coach Georg Wurzer in his third regional round in 1966/67. This season he contributed nine hits in 32 appearances to fourth place in the Kickers. In the summer of 1967 Haug moved to VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga . He made his debut on the first match day, August 19, 1967, in a 4-0 home win against Eintracht Frankfurt. The team at that time included u. a. Gilbert Gress , Horst Köppel and Bo Larsson .

From the second season onwards, Haug was part of the “Reds” regular formation. He played for VfB from 1967 to 1973 a total of 135 Bundesliga games, in which he scored 32 goals. In the 1969/70 season he was also active in the matches in the Messe-Pokal against Malmö FF and SSC Napoli. The elegant technician played his last Bundesliga game on May 19, 1973 in a 4-2 home win against Wuppertaler SV under coach Hermann Eppenhoff , when he formed the VfB midfield together with Hans Ettmayer and Roland Mall . For the 1973/74 season Haug returned to his hometown club Stuttgarter Kickers. Until 1979 he played for the Kickers - first in the Regionalliga Süd (1973/74), from 1974/75 in the 2nd Bundesliga . During these years Haug completed 169 league games for the Kickers, in which he scored 33 goals.

Outstanding in this phase were the derbies in the rounds of 1975/76 and 1976/77, when Haug played with the Stuttgarter Kickers against local rivals VfB Stuttgart. The "Blues" won the first second division derby on October 4, 1975 2-0 against the "Reds". The veteran played his last league game for the Kickers on May 15, 1979 in the 0-2 defeat against SpVgg Bayreuth. At the end of his career, Horst Haug went to SpVgg Renningen in the 1979/80 season .
