History of the Football Department
The gymnastics club 1899 was founded in 1899. The “Viktoria” football club was founded in June 1912 in the “Zum Lamm” inn. In the first few years FC Viktoria was not affiliated with any association. During the First World War , gaming operations were interrupted again due to conscription for army service. After the end of the war in 1919, those returning and the players who were still present got together again to play their football game again under the name of the Viktoria Football Club. In the same year, those in charge of the Viktoria football club and the gymnastics club in 1899 recognized that a merger of the two clubs would make sense because a larger number of members in both clubs were active in sports. On November 29, 1919, a meeting of both associations was called in the Gasthaus zum Löwen, and it was here that the members present decided to merge the two associations. After the merger, the club was named Sportvereinigung Renningen . The first big success of the Renningen footballers dates back to 1947. The then master team around Gustav "Mond" Widmayer rose to the Landesliga Württemberg , the second highest division at the time. In addition to SpVgg 07 Ludwigsburg , SVR is the only team from the Enz / Murr district that has ever played in a league that was second class. The SVR only lasted one season in this league. After relegation from the national league, the team was able to book promotion to the second amateur league in 1951. At the 1952 district cup matches, the SVR emerged as the cup winner.
The footballers of the SpVgg Renningen also gained greater attention with their promotion to the 2nd Amateur League Württemberg in 1964. After the team initially mainly finished in mid-table, the Renningen established themselves among the first places in the early 1970s. In 1974 the championship and the associated promotion to the 1st amateur league succeeded with eight points ahead of the runner-up Union Böckingen . The 1970s and the associated league duels with the Württemberg top clubs Ulm , Aalen and Ludwigsburg are still considered the golden decade of Renningen football. During this time, the SVR was one of the best amateur clubs in Württemberg . The Renninger teams around coaches like Hans Eberle and Ohligschläger and players like Kocijan and Leili still have a name in football-Württemberg today.
In 1978 the SpVgg Renningen could not qualify for the newly introduced amateur league Baden-Württemberg , and was assigned to the only fourth-rate Association League Württemberg . After relegation from the Württemberg Association League in 1984, the club belonged to the top division of Württemberg from 1987 to 1996 and again in 1998/99 and 2000/01. All three championships in the Württemberg regional league (1987, 1998, 2000) were won under coach Wolfgang Krenn. In 1989 and 1997 they reached the semi-finals in the WFV Cup, but were defeated by FC Wangen (1989) and SSV Ulm (1997), then coached by Ralf Rangnick, and in 2007 they were also in the final of the District Cup, but were subject to the GSV Pleidelsheim.
After relegation from the top division of Württemberg in 2001, the club, unlike in previous years, missed the return to the association league. On the contrary, in 2003 they were relegated from the regional league. One of the reasons for this decline is seen in the financial decline of the longstanding main sponsor RINOL. In the years 2007–2012 they always played for promotion to the regional league, but missed the jump back sometimes more, sometimes less. In the years 2009 and 2010 the SVR took 2nd place, but in the relegation games for promotion to the regional league they failed in 2009 at Spfr. Bühlerzell and in 2010 at TSV Hessental. In 2011 they awarded on the last match day with a home defeat against the already relegated SpVgg 07 Ludwigsburg II, the third participation in a row in the relegation. In the summer of 2012, the soccer department celebrated its 100th anniversary and finished in the top 3 of the district league for the fourth season in a row.
After 2012, however, it became more and more difficult to pay for high-quality regional league football in Renningen and you could no longer keep up with the top teams and the financially strong teams. Nevertheless, after the preliminary round of the 12/13 season they were sensationally first in the table in the district league, in the end it was still enough to rank 9 after a mixed second half, but the downturn could no longer be stopped. In the 13/14 season it was only thanks to the splendid second half of the season that they managed to stay up, but in 2014/15 the time had come. After many internal quarrels and the wear and tear of three trainers and a department head, the decline could no longer be stopped. After a total of 12 seasons in the district league, in June 2015 they were relegated to the district league A. In Möglingen, the SVR lost the relegation game against TSV 1899 Benningen with 0: 5 and started the 2015/16 season in the district league A. At the end the 2015/16 season, however, had to cope with another descent. After an overall weak season of 15/16, they ended up relegated to 15th in the A2 district league. The 2016/17 and 17/18 seasons were played in the district league B, the lowest class in the Enz / Murr district, before returning to the A class in summer 2018. There they finished fourth in the table as a promoted player in the 2018/19 season.

Sports facilities
Today the football department of the Renningen sports association plays its home games in the SVR stadium . The stadium has a capacity of approx. 3000 spectators. In addition to the SVR stadium, there is also the Rankbach stadium in the Renningen sports park with a capacity of approx. 5000 spectators. However, this stadium is mostly used as a venue for the youth, as well as by the athletics department. In addition to these two main playing fields, there are also two artificial turf pitches and several training fields.
The handball department plays its home games primarily in the Rankbachhalle built in 1978 , a multi-purpose hall. In addition, the stadium hall , which was put into operation in 1988 , is popularly known as the "Glass Palace", and is used primarily for training purposes. Both halls are also located in the Renningen sports park.
Former stadium on Jahnstrasse
Until 1992, the stadium on Jahnstraße in the center of Renningen was the SVR's venue. With a 1-0 win against SGV Freiberg on May 28, 1992 this chapter was closed. Due to the heated atmosphere, the stadium enjoyed a dreaded reputation in all of football-Württemberg, games in the four-digit range were the order of the day in the 1970s and 1980s. The attendance record for an SVR game has been in place since October 21, 1990, when 3,837 paying visitors wanted to see the association league game against TSF Ditzingen . In the place of the former stadium there is now a residential area. The address “Am alten Sportplatz” is intended to remind of the location of the former stadium.
