Elliott Bennett (born December 18, 1988 in Telford ) is an English football player . The fast-paced winger , who mostly acts in right midfield, is an ex-academy graduate of Wolverhampton Wanderers and has been under contract with the Premier League promoted Norwich City since the beginning of the 2011/12 season .
Athletic career
In 1998, the Wolverhampton Wanderers' talent scouts discovered nine-year-old Elliott Bennett during a "mini-tournament" in which the teams competed with five players each. The talent, which was noticeable for its above-average speed, promptly joined the youth department of the "Wolves". He led an U-12 selection of the club as captain to a tournament held in Japan. In addition, he made a name for himself early on in school sports, regularly winning trophies with his team and making it to the British School Athletics Championships as a 200 meter sprinter for the county of Shropshire .
Together with Lee Collins , who was the same age , Bennett received a scholarship to the Wolves Academy after graduating from school, and in March 2007 he signed his first professional contract here. However, he should not come to a league appearance in the first team - his first two compulsory games in August 2007 against Bradford City and Morecambe FC (both in the League Cup ) were also his last appearances in the first team of Wolverhampton Wanderers. Instead, the club management loaned him to the third division team Crewe Alexandra at the end of October 2007 and extended the period initially set to one month until the end of the year.
Bennett had a very successful time between February 2008 and the end of the 2008/09 season at the fourth division club Bury . There the Wolves had loaned the "wing runabout" to collect further game practice. With 46 league appearances and three goals, he was an important part of keeping the "Shakers" relegated and was particularly popular with his coach Alan Knill , as his speed posed a constant problem for the opposing defenses despite the mostly still age-related deficits .
On August 20, 2009 Bennett, who some experts ascribed " Premier League potential", signed a three-year contract with third division side Brighton & Hove Albion . With Brighton he was promoted to the Football League Championship in the 2010/11 season . Bennett had caught Norwich City's attention with his good performance and switched to the Premier League promoted team on June 14, 2011 .
