Karl-Heinz Frey

Karl-Heinz Frey (born April 8, 1950 in Heidelberg ; † January 2, 2019 in Heidelberg) was a German football player . The center forward won the German amateur championship with SV Sandhausen in 1978 .

Career

Frey began his career at the age of 18 with FV 09 Weinheim in the 1st amateur league. For the 1970/71 season he moved to the then regional league club VfR Heilbronn . After only one season, Karl-Heinz Frey left VfR and moved to Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 for the sum of 170,000 DM . After things stopped working after a good start, he moved to regional league team SpVgg 07 Ludwigsburg on November 25, 1971 .

For the 1973/74 season Karl-Heinz Frey returned to VfR Heilbronn and reached sixth place there with players such as Martin Kübler , Harry Griesbeck , Helmut Röhrig and Bernd Hoffmann . A year later he qualified with Heilbronn for the newly created 2nd League South. Together with his brother Otto Frey , he formed the legendary Frey Brothers at VfR this season .

After relegation at the end of the season, Karl-Heinz Frey left VfR and moved to SV Sandhausen . He turned down an offer from 1. FC Nürnberg . In Sandhausen he played until 1979. In the four seasons he completed 108 games and scored 42 goals. In 1977 he won the German amateur championship and in 1978 the German amateur championship.

Frey lived in Eppelheim and worked for the Heidelberg Employment Agency until he retired.
