career

Youth and Schalke 04; until 1974

The talent of school and youth footballer Klaus Beverungen developed in the youth department of SV Gelsenkirchen-Hessler in Gelsenkirchen . The physically well developed, technically gifted midfielder and attacking player made his debut on March 30, 1969 in the DFB youth national team . It was the second leg of the UEFA qualifying against Sweden in Osnabrück. The protégés of DFB coach Udo Lattek won the game 2-1 goals and were thus qualified for the 1969 UEFA youth tournament in the GDR. Beverungen was there in the three group matches against Bulgaria (0: 1), France (0: 1) and Spain (2: 1) together with fellow players Jürgen Sobieray , Rolf Rüssmann , Paul Breitner , Franz Hiller , Uli Hoeneß and Klaus Scheer in Commitment. The player from Gelsenkirchen also took part in the 1970 UEFA tournament in Scotland with the DFB selection. In May he represented the German colors in the games against Wales (3: 2), Switzerland (2: 1) and the Netherlands (1: 2). In total, Beverungen made 13 international youth matches in 1969 and 1970 and scored two goals.

For the 1970/71 round he signed a license player contract with FC Schalke 04 and started his career in the Bundesliga . On September 5, 1970, he made his league debut at the home game against Hertha BSC. In the Schalke team, Sobieray, Rüssmann and Scheer were other UEFA junior players alongside the recognized top performers Klaus Fichtel and Heinz van Haaren on the field of the Glück-Auf-Kampfbahn. In the first Bundesliga season, the young player was brought into use in eight games by coaches Rudi Gutendorf (until September 7, 1970) and Slobodan Čendić . When "Royal Blue" was able to win the runner-up in the Bundesliga and the DFB Cup under the new coach Ivica Horvat in the 1970/71 season , Beverungen couldn't get past the regular midfield line-up with Herbert Lütkebohmert , Heinz van Haaren and Klaus Scheer and had to come to terms with two appearances in the Bundesliga round. In the cup he was active in the semi-final second leg on June 10, 1972 against 1. FC Köln when he came on for Scheer in the 43rd minute. The billy goats won the first leg after leading Schalke 1-0 at half-time with 4-1 goals. After 90 minutes, the second leg was 5-2 for Schalke and it went into extra time. No further goal was scored, the decision was brought about by a penalty shoot-out. Schalke prevailed with 6: 5 goals and moved into the final, which they won on July 1, 1972 in Hanover against 1. FC Kaiserslautern with 5: 0 goals. Due to the consequences of the Bundesliga scandal, the runners-up fell apart and in Schalke it was about relegation in the 1972/73 round. Beverungen helped in 18 games and two goals, Schalke landed in 15th place. After four seasons, Beverungen said goodbye on the final day of the 1973/74 round after a further 21 missions with three hits from Schalke and moved to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Eintracht Frankfurt, 1974 to 1977

Eight days before the 1974/75 round, on August 17, 1974, the 1974 DFB Cup final took place in Düsseldorf between Eintracht and Hamburger SV. Coach Dietrich Weise occupied the Eintracht midfield with Roland Weidle , Beverungen and Bernd Nickel and the Hessians won the trophy with a 3-1 win against the Hanseatic League in Frankfurt. The Bundesliga start also worked eight days later with a 3-0 away win at Werder Bremen. The Weise team came in third with 43:25 points at the end of the round - Beverungen had scored nine goals in 30 appearances - and on June 21, 1975 they repeated the cup triumph of the previous year with a 1-0 win against MSV Duisburg . In the European Cup, the ex-Schalke was also used in the four games in the cup winners competition against AS Monaco and the eventual cup winners Dynamo Kiev (Rudakow, Fomenko, Muntjan, Kolotow, Onishchenko and Oleg Blochin ). In his second year in Frankfurt, the performance curve of the "Eagle Bearers" fell, they only came in ninth place, and Beverungen had scored five goals in 28 games. In the European Cup , the Hessians prevailed against FC Coleraine, Atlético Madrid and Sturm Graz and only failed in the semi-finals against West Ham United . Beverungen played in all eight European games. After the coaching change at Eintracht for the 1976/77 round, Hans-Dieter Roos took over as the direct successor and was replaced by Gyula Lóránt on November 9, 1976, followed by a career break at Beverungen. He was considered in only three inserts in this round. On the 34th matchday he said goodbye in a 2-1 away win at Fortuna Düsseldorf with his goal to take the 2-0 lead after a total of 61 Bundesliga games with 16 goals from Frankfurt and signed a contract with Bundesliga promoted FC St. Pauli and moved to Hamburg.

St. Pauli, Herne and the end of amateur football

The team from the Wilhelm Koch Stadium at Millerntor fought constantly under coach Diethelm Ferner to stay in the league. With only three points abroad, the 15 plus points in the home games with an average attendance of 12,408 visitors were not enough to keep the league. Beverungen made another 19 Bundesliga appearances and scored three goals alongside teammates Jürgen Rynio , Rolf Blau , Dietmar Demuth , Franz Gerber and Walter Oswald . After relegation, he stayed with the Millerntorelf and ended his career in the Bundesliga after 129 games and 25 goals. In the preliminary round of the 1978/79 series, he played the first 17 games in the 2nd Bundesliga for St. Pauli and scored nine goals. On the 17th matchday he distinguished himself as a two-time goalscorer in the 3-1 home win against Rot-Weiß Lüdenscheid, but said goodbye to Hamburg and already one day before Christmas, on December 23, 1978, he wore the jersey of his new employer Westfalia Herne . For the team from the Stadion am Schloss Strünkede , he played in another 20 second division games with seven goals and thus came in 1978/79 to a round balance of 37 games with 16 goals. Since the "Goldin" frenzy in Herne had ended in a financial collapse, he ended his career in the professional field and accepted the offer of the southern Baden amateur top division club SV Kuppenheim in 1979/80 and played in the local Wörtel Stadium in the future.

In Kuppenheim, Beverungen was still active as a player until the end of 1984, before finally ending his playing career as a player-coach at Phönix Durmersheim.

The trained wholesaler worked for an insurance company in Karlsruhe in 2015.
