Andreas Ernemann (born May 14, 1947 in Weimar ) is a German lawyer . Until mid-2012 he was the presiding judge at the Federal Court of Justice (BGH).

Life

After completing his legal training, working as a research assistant at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg and obtaining his doctorate, Ernemann entered the higher Bavarian judicial service in 1977. He was initially used as a public prosecutor at the Würzburg public prosecutor's office until he became a judge at the Würzburg regional court in 1982 . From 1983 to 1990 he was a full-time trainee working group leader at the Würzburg Regional Court. He was appointed judge at the Bamberg Higher Regional Court in 1988.

On October 2, 1996 he was appointed judge at the Federal Court of Justice. After a brief assignment to a civil senate , he was a member of the 4th criminal senate since March 1997 . He has also been a member of the Senate for Legal Matters since 2004 .

On June 25, 2010, he was appointed chairman of the 4th Criminal Senate. In addition, Ernemann was appointed chairman of the 2nd criminal senate on January 1, 2012 . The fact that a judge presides over two senates at the same time is a novelty in the history of the BGH. The reason for the decision was the fact that, due to a dispute over the appointment of a new chairman in the second criminal division, had been vacant since the beginning of 2011.

On June 30, 2012, Ernemann retired after reaching the age limit and occasionally leads seminars for criminal defense lawyers.
