Diethelm Ferner (born July 13, 1941 in Kragau , East Prussia ) is a German football coach and former player in the defensive midfield .

Career

The midfielder Diethelm Ferner, who came from Rhenania Bottrop to VfB Bottrop in the 2nd League West , became champions with the black and whites from the Jahnstadion in 1962/63 and was in the 1963/64 round from coach Willi Multhaup to Werder Bremen in the newly founded Bundesliga fetched. He is one of the players who were active on August 24, 1963, the premier match day of the Bundesliga. Werder opened the round with a 3-2 home win against Borussia Dortmund and the newcomer from the 2nd League West made his debut on half right. The Werder attack was occupied by the players Klaus Hänel , Ferner, Dieter Meyer , Willi Soya and Theo Klöckner . Furthermore, they played 24 games in this round and scored three goals for Werder, who finished tenth in the table. On September 25, 1963, he played his first international match , which he lost with the U-23 national team in Karlsruhe with 0: 1 against the selection of Bulgaria. He had his second use on November 27, 1963 in Liverpool in the 1: 4 defeat against England.

When the senior national team played two friendly matches against Morocco and Algeria in North Africa at the end of 1963, the Bremen player was also a member of the DFB squad. Coaching career

In 1973, also moved to the coaching bench at Rot-Weiss Essen. For the 1975/76 season he went to Wuppertaler SV . In 1976 FC St. Pauli signed him. At the end of the 1976/77 season, St. Pauli took first place after only three defeats in 38 games and was promoted to the Bundesliga - but relegated again after the next 1978 season. He then went back to Rot-Weiss Essen. But at the end of the next season, Ferner left the club, although a passable eighth place in the 2. Bundesliga North was achieved, and joined Hannover 96 . In the next three seasons, the team missed promotion to the Bundesliga three times and on November 28, 1982, Furthermore, was dismissed for lack of success.

From 1990 to 1995 he worked for Apollon Limassol in Cyprus , during which time he was two Cypriot champions and one cup winner. In 1995 he moved to city rivals AEL Limassol , with whom he reached fourth place in Cyprus' first division. In 1996 he moved to the Egyptian soccer club Zamalek Cairo , with which he won the Supercup and the African Champions League . Nevertheless, he joined the Al-Jahra club in Kuwait in 1997 .

In January 1998 he left the club to take over the post of national coach of the Lebanese national team in February of the same year . He held this position for six months, and in August 1998 the employment relationship was terminated. Furthermore, in October of the same year he took over the coaching position at Apollon Limassol in Cyprus.

This time he stayed with the club until 2000, then went back to Egypt to Etahad Alexandria and reached second place with the team. In 2003 he changed countries again when he joined the Al-Merreikh club in Sudan . There, too, he landed with the team in second place before he went back to Cyprus and took over the capital city club Olympiakos Nicosia . The team reached 8th place, and left the club in 2006.

From March to July 2008 he worked as a coach for Al Ahli Tripoli in Libya , where he reached second place in the national league.
