At VfR Mannheim he had previously played two rounds in what was then the second -rate regional football league south . In the first season 1969/70 the striker came on six missions, in the second year 1970/71 he scored four goals in 34 league games for the blue-white-red lawn players. At the side of the teammates Dietmar Danner , Wolfgang Platz , Klaus Slatina and Rainer Ulrich , however, the VfR could not keep the league.

Also in the 1983/84 season he held the coaching position at that club and was champion of this season after being promoted again with his team. His engagement in Wiesloch ended in the following league season in April 1985 with his dismissal.
