The Spielvereinigung Göttingen 07 eV is an association in Göttingen . The first men's soccer team currently plays in the fifth-class Oberliga Niedersachsen , the first women's team in the regional league.

history

The game association was first mentioned in 1907 under the name FC Gottingia . In 1919 they merged with the Sport 08 club to form today's SVG Göttingen 07 Until 1945 they played in the first and second German division. In 1957, after a 1-0 win against Sportfreunde Ricklingen, they rose again to the then second division. In the years that followed, it crashed into the sixth division. The club recovered, but so far never made it higher than in the Oberliga Nord . In the 1990s, the officials of the time accumulated a high level of debt. Attempts were made to merge with local rivals Göttingen 05 , but this failed because of the members of Göttingen 05. It came down to the seventh division.

In 2005, with the coach Holger Koch, who has been in office since 2003, and a new board member, an upward trend could finally be seen again. As second in the table of the District League South, the SVG had the chance to return to the regional league by defeating the second in the District League North. In the playoff against TSV Hillerse, the team could not confirm the good performance they had shown up to then. TSV Hillerse won 3-2 goals after extra time. At the next attempt, the SVG had better luck at the end of the 2005/06 series. She was able to move up in second because TSV Holtensen, as the superior relay winner, had not reported the youth teams required for clubs in the district league . Two years (2008) later, as a state league champion, he was promoted to the Lower Saxony Oberliga, which could not be maintained when the Oberliga was reorganized. After five more years and good placements in the regional league, the 2014/15 season saw the league rise again with the championship, in which the SVG played until relegation in 2018. Under the coach Dennis Erkner, who has been working since 2018, he was promoted to the Lower Saxony Oberliga in the 2019/20 season, after the team won the Landesliga with 0.1 points ahead of SSV Kästorf due to the quota system.

For many years, the SVG Göttingen has carried out a very broad-based youth work, with children and young people in all age groups (G to A juniors) taking part in the games. The most famous players who learned to play football at SVG include Sebastian Schachten (FSV Frankfurt), Leon Binder (KFC Uerdingen 05) and Leandro Putaro (Arminia Bielefeld). Girls and women’s football has also been available at SVG Göttingen since 2003: in addition to two women’s teams, there are currently girls’s teams in all age groups (F to B juniors). In the 2004/05 season the first women's team of the SVG started in the league operation, which played over the district championship (2008), the district championship (2012) and the victories in the relegation to the upper league (2015) to the upper league east. The team is currently at home in the Braunschweig regional league. From the SVG's long-term promotion of young talent comes u. a. also the German national player Pauline Bremer , who learned to play football from 2005 to 2012 at SVG Göttingen and now plays at Manchester City after holding positions at Turbine Potsdam and Olympique Lyon.

SVG Göttingen 07 hosted the first DFB Futsal Cup from April 8th - 9th, 2006. In the final, SVG Göttingen 07 (with a regional selection) and UFC Münster faced each other. At the end of the regular playing time it was 0-0, the following six-meter shootout was won by the first German futsal champion, UFC Münster, 3-1.

Stadium and own club area

The venue is the stadium on Sandweg. The area was leased from the city of Göttingen by the association in 1926. Initially, only the square and the sports center were built by the members. In 1992 a grandstand was added, which was also built by the members. It covers 299 seats. The stadium holds a total of around 3,000 visitors. Since 2015 the SVG Göttingen has also had an artificial turf pitch, which the GOESF of the city of Göttingen created on the former hard court.

Other sports

Wrestling

The wrestling division existed until 2008.

Cycling

A cycling track runs around the square on Sandweg. Races were held there in the 1950s. In the meantime the cycling track lay idle and no more races can be held. In 2010 the cycling track was renovated.
